Chattanooga FC 2020 Campaign

Role: Design, Direction, Copywriting, Motion, Video, Photography

After a year full of hardships in 2019, the club made the decision in 2020 to end their decade-long tenure as an amateur club and venture into the unknown world of independent professional soccer. Neither the club nor fans knew what was to come, but one thing was certain — we would stand together behind our city and our club, no matter what. This unintentionally prophetic slogan became a rallying cry for supporters and staff alike as we navigated our inaugural professional season amidst a global pandemic and economic recession.

After the slogan had been selected, my goal was to communicate the club’s revolutionary, unwavering spirit by borrowing from existing visual analogs from Russian Constructivism, punk rock graphics, protest art, and street art.

The resulting campaign system combines high-contrast 2-tone photographic treatments with bold typography to create a sense of solidarity, unorthodoxy, and determination.

Chattanooga FC 2021 Campaign

Role: Design, Direction, Copywriting, Motion, Video, Photography

2020 was not the year any of us expected it to be. For Chattanooga Football Club, it meant an inaugural professional season rife with uncertainty, frustration, and sacrifice. In 2021, we wanted to leave the negativity of the previous year behind and look toward the future with grit, determination, and optimism.

After pitching several slogans, the club settled on “Always Forward,” based on the Latin motto “semper anticus.” From this point, my goal was to utilize implied motion to visually communicate the message behind the campaign’s theme, while also challenging conventions of sports graphics in order to stand out from competitors.

The final system utilizes an isometric grid and angled type to create a sense of instability and motion, while the bold, loud color palette provides a sense of optimism and stands apart from the more austere and conventional palettes of other teams within the league.

Thousand Hills Co.

Role: Design

I was tasked with developing a logo and brand guidelines for a newly founded local real estate investment & land development company.

After working through multiple iterations, I arrived at a solution that visually refers to the company name while speaking to the company’s stated values of growth, perseverance, and relationship building.

The muted blue and beige color palette aims to create a sense of calm, sophistication, trustworthiness.

Proudvoter TN

Role: Design

Proudvoter’s mission is to increase the diversity and turnout in our local, state, and national elections through voter registration and participation initiatives. In 2018, Tennessee was ranked 49th in voter participation and 45th in voter registration among all US states.

I was tasked with refreshing their logo and helping build a more user-friendly website in order to help them reach a broader audience. The end result utilizes a familiar political color palette, clean sans-serif typography, and the Tennessee Tri-Star to allow ProudVoter to more effectively pursue their mission.

Additionally, I worked with a team of designers and developers to improve the usability and accessibility of their website in order to help drive voter registration, as well as designing various activist tools and promotional materials.

Britton Interiors

Role: Design

A logo design for a local interior design and staging company. My aim was to create an identity that represents the simplicity & refinement present within the client’s work by using custom type based on Nobel, Futura, and other early geometric sans-serifs, and incorporating analog processes such as letterpress.

Chattanooga Zine Fest #5

Role: Design, Direction

Chattanooga Zine Fest is an annual event held by the Chattanooga Public Library that celebrates independent publishing and book arts. In Spring of 2018, I led a team of volunteer and student designers to help organize the event and create a visual campaign for its promotion. We used a mixture of digital and analog processes to elicit the sort of scrappy and subversive character that is commonly found in zines and zine culture.
